Winter Roofing in New Franklin, Ohio

Winter Roofing Services in New Franklin

Winter weather in New Franklin, Ohio can place significant stress on residential roofing systems. Homes located near Manchester Road, Turkeyfoot Lake Road, and throughout the Portage Lakes region regularly experience snow accumulation, freezing temperatures, and freeze-thaw cycles during the winter months.

Because New Franklin sits near several large bodies of water including Turkeyfoot Lake and Nimisila Reservoir, the area can occasionally experience heavier snow and wind-driven winter storms than surrounding inland communities.

These conditions can lead to roof leaks, ice dams, and structural stress on aging roofing systems. Winter roofing services help homeowners address storm damage, prevent ice buildup, and maintain roof performance during the coldest months of the year.

Common Winter Roofing Problems

Several roofing issues tend to appear during Northeast Ohio winters due to heavy snow and changing temperatures.

Common winter roofing problems include:

• Ice dams forming along roof edges
• Roof leaks caused by melting snow
• Flashing separation from freeze-thaw cycles
• Shingle cracking during cold temperatures
• Snow accumulation in roof valleys

Homes located near Portage Lakes State Park, Turkeyfoot Lake, and wooded neighborhoods along Manchester Roadsometimes experience heavier snow buildup due to shade and wind patterns across the lakes.

Ice Dams in the Portage Lakes Area

Ice dams are one of the most common winter roofing issues in New Franklin. They form when heat escaping from the attic melts snow on the upper portion of the roof.

As the melted snow flows down the roof, it refreezes along colder roof edges and creates a ridge of ice. This barrier prevents proper drainage and can force water beneath roofing shingles.

Ice dams may lead to:

• Interior ceiling leaks
• Damaged attic insulation
• Mold growth inside attic spaces
• Structural wood deterioration

Proper attic insulation and ventilation are key factors in preventing ice dam formation.

Winter Roof Leak Repairs

Roof leaks during winter storms can cause significant interior damage if not addressed quickly. Snow and ice can force water into small openings within roofing systems.

Winter roof repairs may involve:

• Replacing damaged shingles
• Repairing flashing around chimneys and vents
• Sealing exposed roofing areas
• Installing temporary weather protection

Homes located near Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Manchester Road, and residential neighborhoods around State Route 619may experience wind-driven snow during winter storms that can expose weak areas in roofing systems.

Snow Load and Roof Stress

Although most homes in New Franklin are designed to support normal winter snow accumulation, severe storms can occasionally create heavy snow loads on roofs.

Large amounts of snow can place additional weight on roofing structures, particularly on homes with complex rooflines or lower roof slopes.

In some situations, removing excess snow buildup can help reduce structural stress on the roof.

Winter Storm Wind Damage

Winter storms in the Portage Lakes region often combine strong winds with snow and freezing rain. Wind gusts traveling across open water areas such as Turkeyfoot Lake and Nimisila Reservoir can loosen shingles or damage ridge caps.

If wind damage occurs during winter storms, prompt repairs help prevent melting snow from entering the roofing system.

Preventing Winter Roofing Problems

Several preventative steps can help homeowners reduce the risk of winter roofing issues.

Recommended winter roof maintenance includes:

• Improving attic insulation
• Ensuring attic ventilation is balanced
• Cleaning gutters before winter begins
• Inspecting flashing around chimneys and vents
• Scheduling roof inspections before winter storms

Preventative maintenance helps ensure roofing systems remain prepared for harsh winter weather.

Winter Roofing Inspections

Many homeowners schedule roof inspections before winter to identify potential roofing issues early. Inspections evaluate shingles, flashing systems, ventilation performance, and attic insulation.

Early detection of roofing issues helps prevent emergency roof repairs during winter storms.

Homes located near Manchester Road, Turkeyfoot Lake Road, and residential neighborhoods around Portage Lakes State Park often benefit from seasonal roof inspections.

Winter Roofing Services Across New Franklin

We called because we had a leak in our roof that needed to fix asap. We were trying to hold off till spring but Mother Nature forced our hand and had to do it sooner then later. I called at 4 oclock on Friday and Jessie was at our house … More the next morning at 10am. She was great to work with, explained all our options and gave us the ability to finance as well. 4 days later they arrived and we had a new roof in one day! Complete tear off of existing roof, replaced some damaged plywood and all new shingles. They said they would be there at 730 and they pulled in at 7:25 ready to work. Crew was very detail oriented and did impeccable clean up work. I never want to do a roof again but I know exactly who I would call and you should too!
Pictures attached are as follows: Brown 3 tab shingles are old roof. Blue grey architectural shingles is new roof

S&K Construction did an outstanding job on my roof.
The crew was professional, fast, and the work is extremely clean. The shingle lines are straight, the ridge looks perfect, and the edges/drip edge were installed correctly. They also
… More replaced bad wood the right way and cleaned everything up when they were done. The new Driftwood roof looks amazing on my house and completely upgraded the curb appeal. I highly recommend S&K for quality work and great pricing !!

S & K Construction replaced our house and garage roofs. They did a great job! Very communicative throughout the process, the work looks solid, and the pricing seemed fair.
The only downside is whatever company they contracted with
… More to replace our gutters. They seemed to have done a good job but did not communicate with us (showed up when we were at work) and left a mess behind (lots of shrapnel and rusty nails etc.).
Other than that, I highly recommend S&K themselves and would work with them in the future!

The customer service was great from the start! They answered my inquiry fast and sent someone out for a quote 2 days later. Had a quote ready immediately after looking at the roof. Explained everything great and really helped us fine what … More worked best for us. Once they arrived for install they got right to work and communicated what was going on great. They were sure to take care of the ground area and cleanup as well. I would definitely recommend!!

S&K is amazing!!! Let's be honest, no one WANTS to spend the kind of money you have to when you have to get a new roof, especially if it was leaking. Their entire team made the process easy and less painful. I requested a quote … More after hours and within minutes of the request I got a text from Zach and he was able to set up an appointment for next day!! Lamar came over and spoke with us about our roofing options and made some suggestions. He was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Jimmy and his roofing team were awesome!! Friendly, worked quickly, and cleaned up well, you would never know they tore off my entire roof that day they left it so clean. I highly recommend this company!!! They are top notch!!! Oh, did I mention the best part?!? My roof is PURPLE!!! Make sure to hire S&K for your roofing needs!!
